Not a Yoga teacher?  You can still qualify:

The certification program is of special interest to PT (physical therapist), OT (occupational therapist), CSW (clinical social worker), RNs (registered nurses), or other healthcare professionals including those working with seniors, children, those in wheelchairs, or anyone with physical challenges that prevent them from getting down on the floor.

Lakshmi works with Departments of Education and senior housing facilities as well as MS (multiple sclerosis) and other such organizations.  Her results are impressive and will be for you as well.

Description:

Do you have students, patients, or clients that would benefit from doing Yoga but:

• cannot get down on the floor because of age, handicap, or inflexibility,or

• want to practice their Yoga where getting on the floor is impractical (at work, traveling, etc.)?

These folks have traditionally been unable to reap the exceptional benefits yoga brings to the body, mind, and spirit.  Now, you can open this wondrous world to a new audience.

In this program, Lakshmi will add a new dimension to your teaching and/or care-giving.  The teacher certification will provide you with a firm foundation for teaching Chair Yoga.

Along with the normal meditation, breathing, and relaxation techniques, you will learn how to adapt the classical Yoga asanas to the chair (vs. the floor)-what Lakshmi terms the chair asanas (poses or postures):

You will learn the chair asanas such as:

• sun salutation

• moon salutation

• warrior series

• classical balance postures

• the contraindications of each chair asana

In addition, during the program, you will learn the chair asanas for:

• Double Chair Yoga (each student uses two chairs)

• Pair Chair Yoga (two students, each on their own chair, working together as partners)

• Weighted Chair Yoga (each student employs appropriate weights as part of their Chair Yoga)

During your program Lakshmi will cover additional Eastern disciplines and modalities such as:

Pa Tuan Chin

Chinese Arthritis Relief Hand Movements

Acupressure knee strengthening exercises

Various breathing techniques for our meditation, relaxation, and asanas

7 Chakras and their meanings, colors, sounds, and affirmations

5 Yamas and 5 Niyamas

Do-In Chinese Self Massage and Foot Reflexology

Basic nutrition to honor our body temple

You will receive a 175 page illustrated manual and a certificate stating you are a certified LVCYT (Lakshmi Voelker Chair Yoga Teacher).

This course usually qualifies for continuing education units in most disciplines that require such units.
